The last couple of weeks I’ve been reminded of the importance of play.
At SpiritFest over the Easter weekend not only did I get to do this, but most importantly I got to play. Notably with a divine dancer/yoga teacher who took us on a light, fun journey through our bodies for 60 min.
And then, the Delightful Claire Takahashi arrived from the USA and spent a few days staying with me and we played and played and played. Such joy to reconnect with the playful part of me.
Wanna Play?
Claire and I have combined forces bringing breath and play together in a one day workshop (playshop) in which I will be sharing my newest modality of Psychedelic Breath, an altered state breathing technique that uses the magic of Electronic Dance Music to take you deep within in the most delicious way!
Then the play happens as Claire shares her morning alters with us. Morning Alters are a way of playing and connecting with nature. Claire uses natural materials such as petals and leaves to create mindful art and after playing with Claire last week I can confirm that this is such an accessible and meaningful way to engage in play and oneself.
The work(play)shop will be on Saturday 20 April from 9am – 3pm during which time we will come together and create, be in community, share a meal and PLAY.
Not convinced?
Well, some very clever people have a lot to say about play – try this Ted Talk, or this one, or even this one.
Great minds like Einstein were known to be playful, to have fun with what they were doing, as I’ve mentioned in this newsletter before, the greatest challenge in writing the Book of Joy was that Desmond Tutu and the Dalai Lama couldn’t stop laughing long enough to be interviewed.
It’s not just me… the consensus is that play is not a nice to have but rather an essential component in the creative process, vital for success and a well rounded life. You’ll no doubt have heard “all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” and yet, how much time do you actually dedicate to conscious, intentional play?
I’m not suggesting that play is going to magically dissolve the challenges you face on a day to day basis or help your kids pass their exams, its not going to cure your illness but, it is going to make it all seem a little more manageable.
What if we could say: I am facing these challenges AND I’m making time for play.
Claire is only here for a few weeks before she jets back to the US so if you’d like to explore how you can bring more mindful, meaningful, intentional play into your day, click here and join us on Saturday 20 April 2024.
You can learn more about Claire and the beautiful work she does here.
I look forward to playing with you
In grace & gratitude
